On day two, depart to starting point for your Mount Kazbek expedition – Stepantsminda. Along the way, make a stop at the Ananuri Fortress, an ancient gem on the Aragvi River’s banks. The journey continues through the awe-inspiring landscapes of Gudauri, where we’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Greater Caucasus Mountains. As we arrive in Stepantsminda, we’ll settle into local hotel and prepare for the challenges and rewards of the climb.
After breakfast, we’ll head to Gergeti Trinity Church perched atop a 2170m mountain, offering panoramic views of the entire region, including the iconic 5,047m high Mount Kazbek.
From there, we’ll start our hike to Betlemi Hut (3660m), also known as the Meteo Station. This hut, once a Soviet meteorological station, now serves as a basic mountain refuge with electricity, and our luggage will be transported by horses. Ascending the ridge through an open, grassy valley, we’ll be treated to breathtaking vistas of Mount Kazbek before trekking across its glacier, ultimately reaching our overnight destination at the Meteo Station.
This day sets the stage for your ascent, allowing you to adjust to the mountain environment.
Today we focus on acclimatization and training, starting with a hike to Betlemi Chapel, Georgia’s highest church at 3930m.
Afterward, we’ll have a guided gear training session to boost your confidence for the summit climb.
Overnight at the Meteo Station.
The highlight of your journey arrives on day four as we start our climb uo Mont Kazbek early at 4:00 am.
We’ll use ropes to help us climb up to a point where the mountain has two tops, and then we’ll continue to the highest point through snowy and icy parts.
After a few hours of hard work, we reach the very top of the mountain, which is 5047 meters high. The view from the top promises unparalleled beauty. After conquering the summit, descend to the Meteo Station to celebrate this remarkable achievement.
